Already its May and winter is upon us. We hope all of you are keeping warm in this cold weather. This Sunday we invite you all to 'come back to church'! Along with our usual Sunday services, tomorrow we are also having a Messy Church service, starting at 3.45 pm with the theme of "Wind and Fire" for Pentecost. Come along! All are welcome!

Happy Easter! This weekend we invite you to come along to one of our Easter services to remember and celebrate Christ and all He has done and continues to do for us. At St Matthews this weekend we're having a Good Friday service today at 10am, then services Easter Sunday at the usual times of 8.45am and 10.30am. We'd love to see you!

A couple of weeks ago we had our church picnic after our Sunday services at the church. A great day was had by all! Lots of lovely fellowship and great fun, the kids enjoyed the bouncy castle and we all certainly enjoyed the food on offer. A note of thanksgiving to the people in Blenheim who made the day possible!

One year ago today since the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that has affected the lives of so many and goes on to have an impact as we strive to repair our damaged city. We remember the people- those lost, their friends and families but also give thanks for the rescue workers and the countless others who were so giving of their time and energy as we continue to make amends and repairs. We pray that today especially we are able to continue to support eachother and care for eachother. Looking back over the year passed there has been such trial and adversity, but yet through Jesus we have hope for the future and we can be secure in this and the peace this brings. May God bless you and your families at this time.

First update for the year! We hope that all of you had a safe holiday season!
Some news from St Matthews has been our associate minister John Major leaving to take up a new post, we are sorry to have seen him leave us but wish him all the best for his new position.
Another update is that the children's Sunday school will be recommencing for the year this Sunday February 5th alongside our 10.30am service and our first Messy Church for the year will be February 19th! It would be great to see everyone there! The theme is 'God's Valentine' and commences at the usual time of 4pm in the hall of the church.

Merry Christmas to all! Despite the challenges of this year (and there have been many), Christmas is a joyous occasion and offers a sense of peace and hope amidst the adversities of this year. We hope this season blesses you and your families and brings about renewed faith and hope that will always hold you in good stead. At St Matthews we are hosting several Christmas services, the first at 7pm on Sunday the 18th, a lessons and carols service with supper. On Christmas Eve at 5pm is our Messy Church Christmas Special followed by our Christmas Eve service at 11pm and a combined service at 9.30am on Christmas day. It would be lovely to see you there!

As spring is well underway and we're seeing blossoms and the blessing of new life, so we remember all we can be thankful for. At St. Matthews we are very grateful for the folks in Flaxmere who hosted us last weekend. Thank you to them for being so kind and hospitable and for sharing their home with us, a lovely day was had by all! We hope as spring moves forward towards summer and christmas that people are enjoying the freshness of the season and the promise and encouragement it holds, at this time we remember also the 'new life' that we find in Jesus- we do have much to be thankful for!

The next couple of weeks are expected to be busy ones for St Matts! This Sunday again we will be hosting Messy Church at 4pm, the theme of which is 'Battling Giants', in addition to our usual Sunday services. All are welcome, activities will be from 3.45pm! Please bring a plate if able. In addition to this, next Sunday October 9th, the parish will be heading to Glenmark/Waikari for services and a day of fun including lunch and quad bikes! Again, all are welcome! A bus will be leaving from St Matts that morning, approx. $15pp- Please ring to confirm if you are interested in coming along!

'Join the team'! This Sunday we are hosting our next messy church event- keeping in mind the rugby world cup! It starts at 4pm, in the back hall of the church. Please wear black and white and bring a plate to share if able, we would love to see you there!

Our first messy church event went really well and it was great to see everyone there! We will be holding this event regularly- the next service will be September 4th, more details to follow! The snow has arrived, the 'icing on the quake' as many say! Though beautiful it certainly brings about its own challenges. At such times we can encourage eachother and find ways to respond to the needs of others. We hope all of you are keeping warm and safe.
